Greetings from Harrisonburg, Virginia! The semester has started off full swing, after a very relaxing, but very short break. Life goes on, no matter how surreal and fast it may seem. As you all know, school is no exception to this rule.
Therefore, the Alpha Alpha chapter at James Madison University is well underway and busy making preparations for their second recruitment week! This is a very exciting time for all of us. We were so blessed by eight beautiful new sisters last semester, and we are sure that the Lord will provide even more wonderful women to keep this budding chapter alive and growing, still!
Recently, our chapter has also been given a new opportunity for both ministry and service! Harrisonburg’s crisis pregnancy center has sought out our chapter for help with raising funds, collecting clothes and even aiding their social media outreach. It is very encouraging to see how God is using and molding this chapter, though it is in the mere second full semester of its existence!
My brief, but wonderful, time with this sorority so far has taught me that with God, all things are possible. He will use everything, no matter how seemingly small, for His glory, if we will let Him. We are “…Confident in this, that he who began a good work in [us] will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6). We sisters are more than thrilled to see how Christ will continue to move through this chapter and see His glory proclaimed through us. What an honor! I pray that each of us remembers what a blessing this sorority is, and will gain Christ’s excellence through our humble pursuits.

When I came to JMU I immediately began searching for an organization or group that would help strengthen my faith. I was especially searching for a strong group of Christian girls who share my morals and values. When I found out about SAO my prayers were answered. I am so excited to be a part of the Alpha class of the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Sigma Alpha Omega. I can't wait to see where God will lead our organization and how we will grow over the years. I am especially excited about expanding our outreach and growing closer with my fellow sisters. As we expand our membership and grow together through the love of Christ I am looking forward to the impact that we will have on the JMU and Harrisonburg communities. I thank God every day for the opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful group of women.

“My name is Megan Ashby and I am the candidate mentor for the Sigma Alpha Omega chapter at JMU. I am so excited to work with the upcoming candidates as I help them form a sisterhood, grow in their faith, and help out the Harrisonburg community. I am also excited about the month of September because we are wearing teal nail polish on our toes to support Ovarian Cancer Awareness month. Hopefully, people can ask us about the color of our nails and we can explain our philanthropy to them.”

One of the things I've struggled with through out my college career was finding the right group of Christians to stay connected to. I have parted in depth with some campus ministries but each has slowly fizzled out of my life. When I heard about being a part of the founding class of SAO at JMU, I knew had found the perfect thing to keep me rejoicing with my fellow Christians and an awesome way to leave my mark on the campus for many years to come! I think the thing that is going to be the most exciting about the sorority is the outreach ideas we have in mind. Back in the spring our president Claire mentioned a great idea to have a Bee-nefit concert to raise honeybee CCD awareness. Since bees have such a huge impact on our daily food products and livelihood, it sounded like an idea that would attract Christians and Non-Christians through a fun cause and inviting atmosphere!
