The Lambdas are such an amazing group of girls! I am so happy to be a part of this chapter, and am so blessed to have these ladies as my sisters. I know that whenever advice, support, or just a good time is needed, I can always turn to my sisters. God has provided me with a wonderful family for my college years and also for the rest of my life that I will always be thankful for. It is so awesome to see the different lives each of us comes from, and how each of us was brought together because of our love for God. I can see God working in each of these girls, and it is so amazing to see the great gifts he’s given us so that we can more easily reach out to the community. We have girls who bake yummy goodies for our bake sales, girls who have the kindest hearts and help out in feeding the homeless at our local Salvation Army, and girls who are prayer warriors and who will always give Godly advice to those who are going through trials. We’ve had a hard time in the past year with a decrease in numbers, but it has been absolutely amazing to see how this tough time has tightened our relationships with one another and has made our God that much more important. These girls are awesome, and each has a passion and love for God and a hope that is immeasurable. This is what has gotten us through difficult circumstances, and it is what will help us grow not only in number, but also in Him.

- Rachel Riley

I have made new friends that have been able to be accountability partners. These girls all come from different walks of life and yet we all have one common thing; we all have Christ. I never expected to join a sorority, but I was new to campus as a transfer student and wanted to meet people with my beliefs and values. I joined SAO not knowing how it would be, but it has been a great experience! We’ve gotten closer this last semester and I’m saddened to think this is my last semester. We are going through a transition of being a small group and it has been tough, but it has brought us closer and I believe has made each of us stronger. I can’t wait for our new girls to join and see how we end up.

I can honestly say that I don’t know where I would be in life if it wasn’t for Sigma Alpha Omega®. I know that can come off as cheesy or even perhaps exaggerated, but it’s true. I joined in spring of 2009, which was my freshman year at Chico State. I had been having a really rough time the semester before and I only knew people who I had graduated high school with, none of which were Christian. The president at the time had contacted me through Facebook, but I honestly had no intention of joining a sorority; even if it was a Christian one. Nevertheless, when my cousin and my best friend heard me mention it, they encouraged me to join. What I found wasn’t just a place to hang out with other Christians, which don’t get me wrong, it is. But what I really found were sisters. I will never be able to forget the women that I have met, just like a girl can never forget her family. I feel just as close to these women as I would to my own blood. This sorority has seen me at my best and at my worst and all the moments in between. Some of my very best memories in college are with my sisters. My sisters continue to encourage me in my walk with God, they inspire me to be the best me I can be and this is truly a family. Many Christians at Chico State, and I’m sure at other universities, can be intimidated by the idea of a sorority. With all the hype and dramatization they see on television, as well as knowing others in sororities, it can seem like the last place for a Christian organization. However, that is what makes this sorority, and it’s beliefs and what it stands for, so much more exciting. We get to be a light in what seems to be a darkening area. What better way to get involved on your campus than to be a part of something that not only encourages your faith, but opens the doors to so many others?
