  Travel Information

Because of the distance, we all need to be on the ball about our planning and participation.  Prices fluctuate for airfare, so keep an eye out for good prices. (They can get well over $500.)

You have a multitude of options for travel. You may buy directly from an airline (e.g., Continental, Delta, Frontier, JetBlue, Southwest, etc.) or from a consolidator website (Expedia, Priceline, Kayak, CheapTickets, etc.). Be aware that you are more likely to find cheaper tickets on the consolidator websites, but if difficulties happen during the trip, airlines are less likely to be as helpful, or, at least, that is what a travel agent told me! I flew recently to Albuquerque for planning purposes, and Priceline had the best deal. Be sure to know if the prices that they are advertising include taxes and fees. You may also end up with layovers, or for you less experienced fliers, a.k.a. periods of time where you are waiting at a side destination airport for a plane.

Another option is to set up a group rate flight with nearby chapters. This is more likely to cater to NC and GA chapters. There are specialty websites that offer this as well as through some airlines (Google keywords: group rates tickets, airfare, etc.). You may want to call an airline or look on their webpage to find group deals.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES (PLANES, TRAINS, OR AUTOMOBILES!):

We are expecting most Convention attendees to arrive on THURSDAY NIGHT JUNE 2ND, therefore, Thursday night is NO LONGER EARLY BIRD CHECK-IN but normal check-in. There will no longer be an early bird check-in. Please try to orchestrate your ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) no earlier than 4pm Mountain Time (2 hours before Eastern Time, 1 hour after Pacific Time) and shoot for no later than 10pm Mountain Time. If you must come after that time, please notify us ahead of time. We will be having a shuttle going to and from the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), so it is important that we know when individuals and groups are arriving ahead of time. There will be an opportunity to share your travel information during your registration. Do not worry about renting cars or paying for transportation. If you are arriving Friday morning by Red-Eye (overnight flights), please be aware that a special check-in will be that morning for you. Please also notify us ahead of time if you MUST have a Friday check-in as activities begin immediately Friday morning.

We are also planning for morning flights leaving SUNDAY MORNING JUNE 5TH. Please try to have your flight leave no earlier than 9am Mountain Time, since the shuttle will need to get you to the airport 2 HOURS IN ADVANCE. We will begin shuttling you to the airport at 1am, but please only take advantage of this option if you have no other options. If you are on the National Board of Trustees or possibly considering running for the Board, please plan your departure in the afternoon to allow for a meeting at 8am Mountain Time. (Remember, please allow two hours of wait time in the airport before your departure time.)
